Adult Intensive Outpatient

The Adult Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

Support several days a week

If depression, anxiety, stress or another mental health issue is keeping you from getting the most out of life, then the Intensive Outpatient program (IOP) at Insight Behavioral Health Centers may be your ideal next step. The goal of IOP is to prepare you for success so that you are able to create a sustainable recovery for the long-term.

Treatment 3 to 6 days per week

The IOP track offers you more support and more therapy than traditional outpatient therapy options do — while still allowing you to work, go to school, care for children and sleep at home at night.
Male and female adults in IOP receive mental health treatment programming that includes:

  • 3 hours of treatment per day, 3 to 6 days per week

  • A structured schedule of individual and group therapy emphasizing acquisition and practical use of recovery skills in groups and outside of the treatment environment

  • A focus on reducing maladaptive behaviors by facing emotions, building mastery over your symptoms and developing long-lasting changes through evidence-based behavioral and integrative therapies

  • Individual therapy is provided — or you may continue to work with your outpatient mood and anxiety disorder treatment professionals and psychiatrists as an adjunct to IOP participation

  • Specialized tracks to address depression, anxiety, trauma, and secondary substance abuse issues (dual diagnosis treatment)

  • Emphasis on developing values-based behaviors, learning and practicing recovery skills and developing healthy support systems to sustain recovery following discharge

  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Exposure Therapies as the core treatment modalities at Insight; research shows that understanding, managing, and changing maladaptive behavioral patterns helps reduce symptoms of mood, anxiety, and trauma-related disorders

  • Other evidence-based therapeutic interventions, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Radically Open (RO) Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and evidence-based trauma treatments

If you are stepping down from our Residential or Partial Hospitalization Program, IOP can help you maintain the progress you have made. Our staff and clinicians can help you maintain this progress as you continue to build upon your overall goals.
For those directly admitting to IOP, we will assess what you have been working on and help you determine the goals of your treatment.

Personalized support and treatment

In IOP, you will learn new skills and ways to manage and improve your daily living (work, home, and family). Group therapy (as compared to individual therapy alone) offers the opportunity to hear from others who have similar experiences. Other benefits of IOP include developing a concentrated level of skills and education, and the opportunity to make lasting changes in a shorter period of time. Our outcome studies show that our patients experience a significant reduction in their negative symptoms within a two-week timeframe.
When you admit to IOP, we are able to work closely with your individual therapist and psychiatrist in the community while you participate in our program. This helps to ensure continuity of care. And, when it is time to discharge, we will carefully develop a personal plan of action for you that may include outpatient therapy, aftercare services or alumni support programming — if you desire.
